3) In 1965, the
US Forest Service granted William Jans, a former ski racer, pilot, art
collector and land developer, the go-ahead for development of a new
ski area near Aspen.
4) On December 17,
1967, Snowmass officially opened with five lodges, 120 condominium units,
a dozen homes, 21 shops and six restaurants.
