Leadville Colorado and Southern Railroad

High in the Rocky Mountains, the Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad takes sightseers, historians, train buffs and people of all ages and interests to view the untouched wilderness. Experience the beauty of the Arkansas River Valley and spectacular views of Colorado's two highest peaks, Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive.

During the two and a half hour journey you may also catch a glimpse of a deer or marmot. Children and adults relive history while riding along the line built in the 1800s. At the depot, built in 1896, you can view old steam engine #641 and even have a chance to get your picture taken with the engineer.

The Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad departs Leadville daily Memorial Day weekend through the beginning of October. Sites change as the seasons turn. In early June, the end of the Colorado winter, view the snow capped mountains. During the fall, come to see the mountains ablaze as the Aspen trees turn to gold, red and orange colors.

All summer the train takes people in the 1955 diesel engine up to timber line and the headwaters of the Arkansas River. Both open and enclosed cars are available for guests to move about at their discretion. One thousand feet above the valley floor, the top of the line stops at an overview of the Climax Molybdenum Mine and Freemont Pass. Mid-way, a stop at the water tower allows a great photo opportunity and a chance to tour the engine and caboose.

The conductor and other crew members will be happy to answer any questions you have about the history, wildlife or wildflowers of the area. The train is also hosting Roundhouse tours for the first time this year. On Fridays, see the historic resting place of many engines from the Denver South Park and Pacific Railway, and how the older building is still in use today.

The train accommodates handicapped people with space to move about and a restroom on board. Well-behaved pets are allowed to ride. Spend the day taking a train ride through the most gorgeous country high in the mountains. It remains a wonderful, secluded getaway from the bustle of life. But remember, it is a cool area, so bring a jacket. For more information or reservations: 1-866-386-3936 or the website at www.leadville-train.com.

Historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad

Ride the rails through the royal gorge on Colorado's oldest scenic train - the Historic Royal Gorge Route.

Royal Gorge RouteEver since the first passenger train steamed through the spectacular Royal Gorge on May 7th, 1879, guests from around the globe have made the trip to Canon City to experience the Royal Gorge by rail. The 12-miles of track that were laid down deep in this narrow, winding chasm offer visitors a chance to experience the Royal Gorge in its entirety on one of Colorado's most popular destination attractions.

The scenery includes dramatic canyon walls that rise more than 1,000 feet above the tracks, narrow points where there is nothing but the train, the river and the granite, and flowering cholla. Bighorn sheep can be seen scrambling up the steep granite walls along with eagles soaring through the canyon. This is a beautiful place!

Royal Gorge Route The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is Colorado's only gourmet lunch and dinner train and has grown rapidly due to popular demand. Choose from Angus prime rib or fresh salmon for your entrée on the four course dinner train. Osso Bucco, stuffed Cornish game hen, or crab cakes are your entrée choices for gourmet lunch. Vista Dome service offers a wide selection of menu choices while riding in a classic 1950's glass topped dome car.

The Royal Gorge Route offers a class of service for every budget and taste. Choose from comfortable Coach Class with big views, or First Class options of Parlor Class - offering a private bar in a beautifully appointed railcar, Vista Dome service in a glass topped dome car, Gourmet Lunch, Dinner, Murder Mystery, and Wine Trains.

The Royal Gorge Route has the largest fleet of Vista Dome cars in the lower 48, offering panoramic views of the gorge in fully restored 1950's glass topped dome cars. These cars are in service daily for Vista Dome service and gourmet lunch, dinner and wine trains.
