At 7800 feet in elevation our summer days are in the 70s & 80s. Evenings are generally in the 50s.

Ouray was incorporated in 1876. Many of its buildings were built between 1880 & 1900.

Highway 550 between Ouray & Silverton, named The Million Dollar Highway (part of the San Juan Skyway) is one of the most scenic & spectacular drives in North America.

Ouray boasts of having over 40+ amazing hiking and biking trails, with 17 that start right in town.

Ridgway Railroad Museum Work Week, June 4-8, Come to the Ridgway Railroad Museum and work on the restoration of D&RGW and RGS narrow gauge rolling stock. This work week is patterned after the very successful work weeks on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama, New Mexico. We need people with all types of skills including carpentry, painting, computer technology, machine work, cleaning, etc. There is work for anyone who wants to volunteer.

Taste of Ouray, June 6, Ouray Community Center, What better way to experience the true flavor of Ouray than with the annual Taste of Ouray celebration? The event features tantalizing and delicious samplings of local cuisine, brews and wine, music and family activities. The Taste of Ouray is held at the Ouray Community Center.

Corkscrew Gulch Turntable Hike, June 9, A hike on Red Mountain on the right-of-way of the Silverton Railroad from Guston to the turntable. Meet at the Ouray County Museum at 9 am. We will car pool to the start site. The hike is all downhill and about three miles in length. For more information about the hike call Don Paulson at 970-325-0931. Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, July 4, One of the most cherished traditions of Ouray’s old fashioned Fourth of July celebration is the water fights on Main Street that grew out of the old mining days of Ouray in the late 1800s. In addition to the water fights, other festivities include: the Fireman's Ball; horse races; a pancake breakfast; the “Ourayce” (a 10K walk-run); a patriotic parade; kids games; barbeque; zip line rides; and a Jeep flare parade, followed by fireworks over the city.

Ouray County Railroad Days, Aug 20-23, Ouray County Railroad days presents two days of hiking on the Silverton Railroad right-of-way on Thursday September 20th and Friday Sept 21st. Then on Saturday Sept 22nd we have rides on RGS Motor No 1 and RGS Goose No 4. There is a symposium of 30 minute talks on Saturday afternoon along with a major address on Saturday night. The symposium ends with Car Pool tours of the RGS from Ridgway to Lizard Head Pass and a car pool tour of the D&RGW Ouray Branch from Ridgway to Ouray.
